€16 million boost for circular economy projects in North Rhine-Westphalia

The Ministry for the Environment in North Rhine-Westphalia has announced the results of the first funding round for the "Circular Economy – Circular Cities.NRW" initiative. Seven projects have been selected from 13 submissions and will receive a total of €16 million from both regional and EU funds (ERDF and JTF). The projects focus on the reuse of materials, repair services, circular business models, and appointing circular economy officers in local communities.

Environment Minister Oliver Krischer highlighted that these initiatives will strengthen local economies, protect natural resources, and create future-proof jobs. The projects also showcase how municipalities, businesses, and civil society can work together to advance sustainable consumption and production practices.

One of the cities receiving funding is the CCD Signatory Aachen, where the project "Kreislauf-WIRK-Statt" will establish an interactive centre offering workshops, seminars, and exhibitions to promote circular practices, particularly the reuse and recycling of building materials. The project also includes the CCD support partner CSCP as one of its collaborators.

The funding is part of North Rhine-Westphalia's broader strategy to lead in circular economy practices within the framework of the EU’s Green Deal.
