Smart Inspiration Day 2023 is The Smart City Institute's annual event dedicated to the sustainable and smart transition of territories. Its 6th edition will take place on Tuesday 16 May 2023 at BluePoint Liège, with a special focus on the link between circular territories and the sustainable and smart transition.

Among the speakers at this event will be ICLEI Europe's Simon Gresset, who will present the European Circular Cities Declaration, highlighting the importance of mobilizing local actors and their crucial involvement for the success of the transition to a circular economy. Gresset will also show how data collection and analysis are essential methods for guiding circular decision-making. One such method is urban metabolism, which gives policy makers a better understanding of the material and energy flows in their territory.

Smart Inspiration Day makes this link between circular and smart cities, as it views their approaches as complementary. The circular economy is one of the axes on which sustainable and intelligent territories rely to support their sustainability via a creative, innovative and more inclusive economy. Conversely, sustainable and smart transition approaches can contribute to the success of circular initiatives, in particular through a better understanding and organization of urban flows, or even the establishment of collaborative ecosystems necessary for this type of approach.
