CityLoops launches its website

The CityLoops project, funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, has launched its website, a hub to follow the progress of seven small to medium-sized cities trying to become more circular.

In CityLoops, the cities of Apeldoorn (The Netherlands), Bødo (Norway), Mikkeli (Finland), Porto (Portugal), Seville (Spain) and Høje-Taastrup and Roskilde (Denmark) have joined forces to pilot a series of demonstration actions to close the loop of two of the most important waste streams in Europe: Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) and Bio-waste.

The website highlights the tools and processes these cities are developing to tackle bio-waste and CDW, how they are implementing these tools and processes in their demonstration actions, and why EU’s Circular Economy Action Plan has identified CDW and bio-waste as key waste streams for the transition to a circular economy.

In addition, the website features explains how CityLoops defines a circular city, what indicators it uses to assess city circularity, and how the project will implement circular procurement to reach its goals. During the course of the project circular procurement experts Rijkswaterstaat and ICLEI will help the seven CityLoops cities to identify how and which procurement activities could be used to strategically support CityLoops demonstration actions. In this context, a series of activities will be undertaken to promote and support circular procurement implementation at city level.

The CityLoops website will regularly update on project and topic-related events and activities, as well as on other news related to circularity in the CDW and bio-waste sectors. Cities interested in the project are invited to get involved as a replication zone. The website offers more information on how to become a CityLoops replicator and how that can benefit cities.
